WANDEL
(GOING BEYOND A SINGLE MUSIC VIDEO)

The concept was inspired by Betterov’s lyrics, which explore themes of time, change, and personal evolution—especially his shift from rural to urban life. This led the team to develop the central theme of ‘Wandel’ (change). To represent it, they designed lenticular installations that invite reflection on transformation and our roles as observers or participants. An interactive wall responding to visitors’ movements added immersion, and audience participation was encouraged through the submission of personal videos or photos depicting significant life changes.

During the ideation phase, several concepts were explored due to Betterov’s still-evolving artistic identity. The first solid concept, initially titled “Paint the Town Red” and later “Colorful Revolution”, imagined a rebellious story world where Betterov and the audience fight against a conformist regime. Inspired by the punk elements in his music, the antagonist was originally “Anti-Betterov,” a version of the artist who chose conformity over creativity. This later evolved into a symbolic corporation named “GRAY”, representing societal pressure to conform. The concept featured propaganda posters that could be ripped away to reveal colorful art beneath—symbolizing liberation. This idea extended into an Augmented Reality game where users found QR-coded posters in real-world locations, removed parts of the “gray” overlays, and replaced them with their own art. This collective action would gradually transform a dull world into a vibrant one, culminating in a concert showcasing the community’s artwork, including merchandise featuring the shared creations.

The Exhibition of Change features a series of hexagonal “Wandelwall” rooms, each themed after one of Betterov’s songs. These rooms use lenticular installations to depict personal and collective experiences of change. As visitors move through the rooms, wall colors subtly shift from white to black, symbolizing gradual, often unnoticed transformation.
Each Wandelwall displays two sides of a song’s lyric—filled with user-submitted images from the campaign—representing past vs. present. Visitors experience the “past” upon entry and walk through the space to reach the “present”, embodying personal evolution. The layout ensures that once change is perceived, it cannot be reversed.
A final “Sensory Social Reveal” room concludes the journey, and interactive tablets allow visitors to explore the images more closely, including finding their own contributions.

“Wandelwalls” are lenticular installations that depict a shared experience of change. Each wall is themed after a Betterov song and features lyrics filled with user-submitted images from a social media campaign. As visitors enter a room, they see images representing the past and nostalgia; upon exiting, they see the present and what has changed. This transition symbolizes the journey through change, making the experience both personal and reflective.

The final room of the exhibition is completely black and features a screen that remains dark until visitors enter. As people stand in front of it, their silhouettes “reveal” parts of a hidden video beneath the black layer. The more people present, the more of the video—and its accompanying music—is unveiled. The video shows a person folding their hands in front of their face, and as more of it becomes visible, the music grows louder. Once the screen is fully revealed and the music reaches full volume, visitors experience a new Betterov music video together. Afterward, they exit the space, resetting the room for the next group.
